New Baby Monograms and a Coupon Code!

Hey y'all! {Scroll to the bottom for your coupon code!}

Just wanted to check in with you today and show off the most recent monograms rolling out of my Etsy shop.  I did two last week: one for a boy and one for a girl. Ladies First!

Custom Baby Girl Monogram in Gray on Yellow Chevron
And the boy's:

Custom Baby Boy Monogram in White on Navy Dot

That one is very similar to another I gave as a gift recently...I love this combination for a little boy!

If you have a new baby in your life (or older children who would love to have this special touch in their room), please hop on over to my Etsy shop!  It's called That Mommy Designs.  Once there you can peruse different options in paper backgrounds and fonts, or you can click "Request Custom Order" and give me as much direction as you would like.

Check out these cute new papers I have in stock too!

To celebrate the gorgeous weather I am currently running a coupon: use the code SPRING20 to save 20% off any custom monogram, yay!  Hope to see you there!

Getting my Stitch Fix

It took me a while, but I finally tried it:

All you do is take the online quiz about your style and measurements, and just like that a stylist sends clothes and accessories picked just for you.  You keep what you want and send back what you don't.

I'd been doubtful about it, but when I saw the first Fix my MIL received, I was kinda sold.  Truth is, I need a style infusion.  I've (sadly) grown out of some clothes and what remains feels like...blah.  A few cute pieces is just the inspiration I need.

And when I got my first shipment?  I love this service!!!  I would wear every single thing that was sent to me. Each piece was cute and even better...it all fit!  Want to see what was included? (Sorry about the quick iPhone pics, I'll do better next time).

Skies Are Blue Leslee Shirt Dress
Market & Spruce Careen V-Neck Dolman Knit Top

Street Level Kaelyn Laser Cut Two-Tone Reversible Tote

Just Black Adorra Skinny Jean

Daniel Rainn Kal Henley Blouse

So...what did I keep?  This time I just kept one thing: the Skies are Blue Leslee Shirt Dress. Budget is definitely a factor for me (although I'd say these clothes are well priced!) so I chose the one item that I will amp up my style and which I will wear a ton this summer.  I just packed everything else back up in the included envelope and -bam!- sent it right back (free of charge).

Want to try it for yourself?  Please click through using this referral link.  That way, I get a credit for sending you their way and you get to try your first Fix!  AND you'll get your own referral link after your first Fix, yay!

Things to know: you are charged a styling fee of $20 for each Fix, which is then credited against whatever you purchase.  If you buy all five pieces, you also get a 25% discount.  And like I said, if you refer friends you get a credit.  So give it a shot! I was so happy I did:)  Tell them I sent you!

Love,

Antique Finds and Losing My Mind

Hello Thursday!  How did you get here so quickly?  I was just thinkin' I should come in here and write a post for Wednesday, when I realized Wednesday has come and gone and left Thursday in its wake.  Not that surprising, really.  I have been up to my eyeballs in paint.  I am painting my family room, which has meant (1) sanding and painting all the woodwork, (2) sanding and repairing all the walls, (3) endless, endless taping, and (4) finally, painting.  This is done in one-hour increments, aka naptime.  I spend all my time covered in dust and bruises.

However, over the weekend I did find inspiration at a huge antiques show.  Check out these goodies:

yum.

yummer.

yummy-mcyummersons.

oh--cute!  and yummy.

Fun stuff, isn't it?  I love looking back at these pictures because for the last two weeks I have mostly been looking at this:

Wish me luck!

Overstock Love (and a Discount Code)!

Have you ever bought anything from Overstock.com?  They're wonderful...and I love them super-mucho today because they are offering you--dear readers--a discount code for 10% off! Hip Hip Hooray!

When we moved from our condo to our home three years ago I ordered this chair and have been extremely happy with it.  It was delivered quickly and was very true to the picture online.  It sits in my little "contemporary corner" in my office and I love it!

So, what will you buy with your discount code?  I have been coveting this mini chandelier for my closet re-do:

Versailles 3-light White Crystal Mini Chandelier
Versailles Mini Chandelier

And a gorgeous chandelier might get lonely without a cute new chair, right?

Chippendale Occasional Ivory/Black Chair

I can totally see myself sitting there and admiring all my new jewelry!

Hermosa Bracelet

Robert Rose Goldtone Hoop Necklace

Swoon.  The possibilities are endless!  Y'all know I am on the Dave Ramsey plan, but if you're in the mood for saving money, just use discount code 121745.  It is good for 10% off anything except for movies, books and electronics and it never expires!  Just make sure you order everything all at once because you can only use it once per email address.

The main reason why I first went shopping at Overstock was for their shipping--did you know it is always only $2.95 shipping?  That's all I paid for shipping on my chair and that alone is a huge savings.

Now, for the legal stuff: y'all should know that all the ideas and opinions expressed in this post (and of course, on all my posts) are my own.  No monetary compensation was received for doing this post, however, I was provided with a discount code.

Happy Shopping, friends!

Money Saving Tips

Being frugal is not easy.  It takes discipline and effort to stay on top of what I am spending, and me no likey.  But enough whining...and on to Mommy's top five most random tips for saving money.

1) The Grocery Game!  Do you know this website?  It helps you use your coupons strategically based on what coupons you should have in your file as well as what is on sale where you shop.  It does cost somewhere in the range of $10 every 8 weeks, but I have saved so much money as a result of this system that it pays for itself.  That said, I think that you could temporarily enroll as a sort of "boot camp" for how to save money with coupons, then do your own research each week using store circulars.

2) Order groceries online.  I started doing this when I was real prego with LB, and I physically couldn't shop with a toddler anymore.  There has to be a grocery store near you who has this option.  I order my groceries online and they bring them out to my car for me at my pickup time.  The charge for this service is $4.95 at Harris Teeter, but I probably only pay that fee about half the time due to all their promotions.  The real reason this saves money is because it curbs impulse buying.  Until I started doing this, I had no idea how much I threw in my cart on a whim.  And, because you can see what you are spending before you click "buy," you can also decide what is a priority for you that week, and take that bottle of wine right out of your virtual cart.

3) Get someone to give you their Kohl's cash.  Okay, so people who shop at Kohl's know that they give "Kohl's cash" to their credit card customers.  These are like gift certificates that are good for a week at a time.    My awesome mom has the Kohl's credit card, gets the "cash," and gives it to me.  Here's an example of the kind of stuff you can do when you combine Kohl's cash with a sale:

I bought a decorative hourglass on clearance.  It was originally $34.99 and I paid $6.  Plus I got some chocolate because I am a sucker.  I gave them the Kohl's cash, and they gave me the merchandise for free.  I don't have store credit cards, but if I did it would be this one.  Their incentives are awesome.

4) Enroll in customer appreciation programs.  I do Upromise for college savings for my kids, My Coke Rewards, and stores like World Market and DSW.  I am a preferred customer at Sherwin-Williams and never buy paint there without a coupon.  I only do these if they don't take up too much time or real estate in my in-box.  For example, Huggies has an online rewards program which I did long enough to get some free diapers and wipes, but each code entered online required like 8 steps...not worth it.  But other programs totally are...if they are free I try them and see if they work for me.  Then I get free stuff with points or buy stuff in the stores using the incentives I get for enrolling.  At DSW I received a $10 coupon for enrolling (which was free) and another $10 for spending some money.  Then I went and bought 2 pairs of shoes on clearance and here was my receipt:

That's right--I spent $10.72 for two pairs of shoes and saved $105.05.  I got one pair of cute shoes and one pair of super-comfy Mommy shoes:

Does everyone hate how their own foot looks?  These shoes are cuter in person, by the way.
Not so orthodic-y.

5) Make a budget.  I know, everyone and your mother says this, but it is so true for me.  When I track what I'm spending by saving receipts and adding it all up at the end of the month, I see real clearly where that money goes, and can figure out how to save more of it.  And once I stopped paying full price for most things, I found it became easier to stay the heck out of the mall and stick to that budget.

How about you?  What's your best tip for saving money?

Fabric Inspired Decorating

How do you decorate?  I'll admit that my decorating "technique" is occasionally as follows:

  1. Pick a paint color based on what I feel like.  Do not consider how it relates to the rest of the house.
  2. Cajole the Hubs into painting by promising him it's the last room he'll have to paint.  Ever.  He has yet to mention the fingers I have crossed behind my back.
  3. Place assorted thrift-store accessories and "found" objects (literally, found 'em on the side of the road) randomly around the place.
  4. Spend too much time flailing around trying to find coordinating fabrics.
  5. Give up, watch The Bachelor, and ignore that my room is woeful at best.

Believe it or not, other people have more successful decorating techniques.  I am sure you've seen Sarah on that show Sarah's House.  One of the things she and her sidekick Tommy do is choose a fabric first.  That fabric inspires the color choices, furniture and even the design style of the final room.  I loved how she used this yellow and charcoal fabric in a bathroom:

My friend Jessica is great at using this technique, to the point that a fabric actually inspired her entire wedding.  And it was so beautiful that it was featured in the current issue of Weddings Unveiled --check it out here.

See that striped table runner?  That's the fabric.  Gorgeous, right?
These photos, from Jessica's photographer Millie Holloman, make me drool.

Anyhoo, she and I went fabric shopping for her new house last weekend, and what fun!  We saw some beautiful fabrics, and I can't wait to see what she does with her inspiration fabrics in her new house.

Her bedroom fabric--I adore it.

This graphic print is so pretty--I want to cover my house in it.

Here's the inspiration for her great room--isn't it, um, great?

And here's what it looks like on an ottoman.
Heaven!

And here's a fabric I personally loved for its colors (with my paint chips).
It's since been nixed due to being too paisley-y.

Speaking of paint chips...I have made some progress on my quest for the perfect beige.  Turns out, it's not a beige, its a greige, not too pink or yellow.  Very neutral but warm--and that's it on that chip!  It has no name because its a custom blend but I'll show you what it looks like on my wall soon, promise!  Then we will go through my aforementioned decorating "technique" and see what happens next;)

In the meantime, go find some fun fabrics and see how they inspire you!

Weekend Best Buys

{Edited to get all linky with it!  Look below the post to see where I am linking up!}

Hello my dears!

I hope you had a great weekend!  In spite of Biggest Boy getting sick this weekend and my dear friends having to cancel a visit because their little gal was sick too (no coincidence that we all just started preschool!), I managed to have an upbeat weekend...and thrifty weekend finds don't hurt!

Went antiquing with my friend Jessica, mostly to look for furniture for her, but I did find this little friend:

It is an antique Jim Beam bottle--Jess spied it in a pile of junk because of the color, which is perfection.  When you factor in the authentic "trademark" on the bottom, I just had to take it home. I really hesitated to spend $8, but turns out $8 isn't so bad--found the same one on ebay yesterday for $24.95!

Also picked up (actually asked Jessica to pick it up at a yard sale for me) this super-cute towel ring which I plan on using whenever I redecorate my powder room.  It was just $5 new, can you believe that?  You tell me which one is cuter:

Won't you please put me out of my misery?  Also, why am I in a powder room anyway?

Hello Gorgeous!

And check out this beautiful fabric:

I didn't bring this one home and now I have the opposite of Buyer's Remorse.  Passer-upper's remorse?

Last but not least, Jessica's steal of the day was this gorgeous chair for just $49!

It is in great condition with great lines, and I think she did a good thing by picking it up.  Now, can you picture it painted an antique white with a new fun fabric?  Or maybe a dark distressed wood with grain-sack upholstery?  I love it when possibilities get all endless like that.

The best buy of the weekend, though, was date night on Friday night.  One of our local bar/restaurants has a membership program that rewards you for trying different beers--when you try 200 different bottles you are rewarded with a $100 party.  My husband signed on four years ago and Friday night was his party--drinks and appetizers for free?!?!  That's my kind of deal!  Now do I thank my husband for drinking all that beer, or what?  I don't know, but I did have fun.

Here we are, RIGHT IN YOUR FACE!  Sorry about that, but its the only pic I got:)

P.S. I'm lovin' the Linkys at:
