Falling (Back) in Love with Legos and a Lego Storage Round-Up!

No doubt about it, my most popular post of all time is my Lego Storage and Play Table, an Ikea hack I did more than three years ago:

I think this project has struck a chord with people because it encourages creativity in children but protects mom's sanity.  My table is easy to build, adjustable in height, and provides ample storage.  However, it has been three years so Legos have now taken over the train table, among other surfaces! And as a result I was starting to fall out of love--just a little bit!--with Legos.

However, I was reminded of the benefits of Legos the other day through the website Brick Dave, a blog dedicated completely to Lego.

It's so true: playing with Legos has created so many opportunities for creativity, persistence and patience for my boys.  What I find especially interesting is how their personalities shine through in the ways they play: Biggest Boy methodically follows all instructions, enjoying the process of building; Littlest prefers to get wacky and build his own amazing creations.  Either way, I love to see them playing with Legos.

So I've rounded up a few storage options for Legos (as well as renewed energy for tackling the mess once again)!  We love our Lego Head Storage (affiliate link), but I really need options for storing those partly-built and oddly-shaped creations.

How cute are these DIY buckets from Chubby Bunny?  I love these because they would fit partially assembled sets along with their accompanying loose pieces:

I'd love to be handy enough to build these under-bed storage trays from the happy housie:

Another great solution for sets that might be partly disassembled (you know, because someone's football or entire body landed on them)...huge fabric bins!  This tutorial by The Scrap Shoppe has me convinced I can make some:

Of course the sky's the limit when it comes to how to organize Legos!  You can see more ideas on my Lego Pinterest Board.

Or share with us here...what methods have worked for you?  Do tell!

#tircoloringbook

While this post may contain affiliate links, all opinions are 100% mine.

Well this is fun!  One of my favorite bloggers, Melissa Michaels of The Inspired Room, is releasing a home decor coloring booknext week and I am so super excited to have received an advance copy of this beautiful book (thanks Melissa)!!!
The Inspired Room Coloring Book: Creative Spaces to Decorate as You Dream
Are you on board with the coloring book craze?  I am a big fan. I guess I am still a kid at heart but coloring is really relaxing for me.  Sometimes the boys and I all sit at the counter and color together...we love it!  The Inspired Room coloring bookis unique, however, because it focuses on Melissa’s love for making a house a home.  It’s just full of sweet images, including some with inspiring quotes, including this one which is a favorite verse of mine:

I'm also fond of the pages with a series of objects you might find around the home:

This book is especially nice because of the attention to detail: the paper is nice and thick and only printed on one side, in case you want to use sharpies without ruining the next image.  And I just think the hand-drawn images are super sweet.  Want to see more?  Even though this book doesn’t officially release until July 1st, you can  already order now at amazon.com(and --bonus!--it's on sale for less than $9).  Head on over to see more pictures of some of the pages inside.  It would be such a relaxing summer activity for yourself, or a perfect gift for the home-décor lovin’ woman in your life!

Stitch Fix Review #2

This post contains affiliate links but all opinions are always 100% mine!

Hey people!!!  I got my second Stitch Fix yesterday, woo hoo!

It is such an easy and exciting way to shop for clothing, shoes and accessories.  If you'd like to sign up, you can click right here.  Here's the run-down on my June shipment:

Dillan Strappy Sandal:

Belissa Ribbed Detail Knit Top:

Tammi Printed Dress:

Galinda Printed Maxi Skirt:

Anjuli Dark Wash Denim Jacket:

Some cute items, to be sure...sadly the maxi skirt was just too big for my short self.  I *love* the denim jacket but its a hard sell because I already have a similar one (although it's not as comfy!  not as distressed!  not as cute!)

Kinda liked pairing the Belissa top with skinny jeans and the Dillan strappy sandals:

And really loved the Tammi dress paired with that cute Anjuli denim jacket:

So what will I end up keeping?  Aaaahhhh!!!  I actually don't know yet.  Hard decisions are hard. Any advice?

Getting my Stitch Fix

It took me a while, but I finally tried it:

All you do is take the online quiz about your style and measurements, and just like that a stylist sends clothes and accessories picked just for you.  You keep what you want and send back what you don't.

I'd been doubtful about it, but when I saw the first Fix my MIL received, I was kinda sold.  Truth is, I need a style infusion.  I've (sadly) grown out of some clothes and what remains feels like...blah.  A few cute pieces is just the inspiration I need.

And when I got my first shipment?  I love this service!!!  I would wear every single thing that was sent to me. Each piece was cute and even better...it all fit!  Want to see what was included? (Sorry about the quick iPhone pics, I'll do better next time).

Skies Are Blue Leslee Shirt Dress
Market & Spruce Careen V-Neck Dolman Knit Top

Street Level Kaelyn Laser Cut Two-Tone Reversible Tote

Just Black Adorra Skinny Jean

Daniel Rainn Kal Henley Blouse

So...what did I keep?  This time I just kept one thing: the Skies are Blue Leslee Shirt Dress. Budget is definitely a factor for me (although I'd say these clothes are well priced!) so I chose the one item that I will amp up my style and which I will wear a ton this summer.  I just packed everything else back up in the included envelope and -bam!- sent it right back (free of charge).

Want to try it for yourself?  Please click through using this referral link.  That way, I get a credit for sending you their way and you get to try your first Fix!  AND you'll get your own referral link after your first Fix, yay!

Things to know: you are charged a styling fee of $20 for each Fix, which is then credited against whatever you purchase.  If you buy all five pieces, you also get a 25% discount.  And like I said, if you refer friends you get a credit.  So give it a shot! I was so happy I did:)  Tell them I sent you!

Love,

Moss Inspired

I have a wee obsession with moss (the plant and the color).  Totally geek out over it.  Whenever I'm out and see moss I usually snap its picture, like the crazy lady that I am.

I love it alongside paths:

Creeping up trees:

And taking over walls:

I also used it my fairy garden:

There's something about how tiny it is, yet how beautiful it can be and what an impact it can make. So, just for fun, here's a moss-inspired color palette to inspire you (hopefully as much as moss inspires me!)

Snow Days!

I had something else in mind for today's post, but life was interrupted by this:

Or maybe it wasn't that life was interrupted but that it happened.  That's what it is to seek beauty. You gotta roll with it sometimes and take what comes.

If you're on the East Coast too, I hope you're having fun and that you are safe and warm today!
